*Water Lilies, Harmony in Blue* (1917): When World War I broke out in 1914, Monet walled himself off even further from the tragedies around him, focused on his water lilies. He began to develop an idea for a great ornamental scheme and was particularly busy between 1914 and 1920, producing a number of extraordinarily large canvasses. The clash of green trees as their reflection penetrates into the violet-blue depths of the pond's water is the subject of this painting by Monet. He employed expressive, but smooth brushwork to provide subtle accents of complementing reds, pinks, and yellows on the buds of the lilies that lay atop surprisingly colourless flower pods.*CLAUDE MONET (1845-1870) is one of the world's most famous painters, well-known today for his series of serene water lilies paintings, Claude Monet was instrumental in forging an entirely new direction for the world of art & impressionism. His distinctive use of colour, vision, and conformation would have a long influence on fine art, inspiring many great artists like Van Gogh.
