*The Manneporte (Etretat) (1883): During Monet's visit on the Channel Coast in the early months of 1883, the Manneporte, a massive natural arch that jutted out into the water on the beach at Etretat, caught his attention. The Porte d'Aval, the Porte d'Amont, and the Manneporte are three spectacular rock formations in the region that he painted. The dematerializing impact of the sunshine on the Manneporte allowed the artist to interpret the cliff almost entirely in terms of colour and brilliance. *CLAUDE MONET (1845-1870) is one of the world's most famous painters, well-known today for his series of serene water lilies paintings, Claude Monet was instrumental in forging an entirely new direction for the world of art & impressionism. His distinctive use of colour, vision, and conformation would have a long influence on fine art, inspiring many great artists like Van Gogh.
